Back Entry Makeover

Hello everyone, it’s been a while since my last post. I apologize for the break, but there has been a lot going on around here. I’m sure you can all relate, right. We finished up our home school year, and had our second graduate. Yep, my son, graduated – WHERE HAS THE TIME GONE?

I am so thankful that the Lord has allowed me to stay home with my children and educate them. Without Him, I couldn’t do it. I am also thankful for a husband that understood from the beginning my desire to stay home with them. Today is my 26th anniversary with my precious husband. I have a very thankful heart today for all God’s wonderful blessings in my life.

I have been working on a few projects around here, but haven’t had the time to create a post, so this one will be a doosey (not sure on spelling), or should I say a biggie.

I have a few projects that I want to work on this spring/summer, one being my back entry. This area gets the most use, and is often neglected when it comes to cleanliness, organization, and prettiness. Every time I came through my back door this winter, it was depressing to my spirit. I saw so much chaos and mess – UGH! I knew that this would be one of my first project to tackle for my sanity.

I will start off with a few before pictures. Keep in mind that I had gotten rid on the huge black rug that covered my wood floors over the winter, and had also decluttered some of the area, and cleaned the walls before I took these pictures – believe me when I say there was a BIG improvement before I took these before shots. Here goes…

I had decided to repaint this area. This brown did nothing to make the area a “Happy place” when you walked in, in fact, in accented all the dirt, including mud boots, muddy paw prints, scuff marks on the white doors – need I say more.

I had already painted my living room & family area in a cool pale blue. Did I mention blue is my FAVORITE color. I loved how soothing the color made the rooms. I had practically a whole gallon left over, so I decided to use the same color for my back entry. I think it looks sooooooo much better. Tell me what you think, I will show you a side by side comparison.

I tried to find a similar shot so you could see the difference. This is the same desk in both images. The blue color is so much nicer on the eyes. I also decided to paint the desk white. This is something I had been wanted to do for a while, so I bought some semi-gloss white and painted the desk and all the white doors – such an improvement – just look!

The first picture is obviously the before, the second is the finished, organized area. The white helps to make the area look much cleaner, I just love it. Now I want to actually sit there and manage my home. I can pay my bills, plan my grocery list and menu for the week all right there at that desk. Now it’s so much more functional.

I have a few more final shots of the room that I want to share with you.

I had a couple of other small projects that  I did for this area, one being the key holder that you see in the second picture above. I found that cabinet door at Goodwill for about a dollar, and decided to add hooks and make a place to hang all our keys. This works great, no more lost keys so long as you can remember to hang them up when you come in the door (LOL). I also made a poster to hang over our electric panel (seen in the third picture). I think I will save that one for another post.

Hope maybe I gave you some ideas about a problem area in your home. This makeover has really helped my mood when I step through my back entry. Instead of stress at the mess, I smile and think “Done.”

Enjoy your day,
