A Little Respite…

Recently, my husband and I had a day all to ourselves. Normally what happens is he will get caught up on things before he goes back to work, and I get caught up on housework or homeschool planning. However, I had other plans in mind. Do you remember when Jesus says, “Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place and rest a while,” (Mark 6:31). Well, we were going somewhere that we could get away, if just for a day, and rest a while.

We decided to go on a day trip all by ourselves. I couldn’t believe it when all the pieces fell in place and we were able to go. This almost never happens for us.I had planned for us to go to Mount Airy, you know, Mayberry – Andy Griffith. We only live about an hour from there. If you have never been, go, you will enjoy it. Once, we took the squad car tour with the kids, and really enjoyed it. Every time we go, we want to eat at the Snappy Lunch, famous for their pork chop sandwiches, but they are always full with a line waiting out the door.

Well, believe it or not, we were able to enjoy one of those famous sandwiches. We saw the line had disappeared, and went over to the door. There was about 20 minutes before they were to close, so we got in, and didn’t have to beat the crowd. The sandwiches were so good.

Next, I wanted to visit Pilot Mountain. If you are familiar with The Andy Griffith Show, then I am sure that you have heard them mention “Mount Pilot.” Well, that was our next stop.

I was hoping to see some of the fall colors, but it didn’t happen. Our area hasn’t reached it’s peak in color, but maybe within the next couple of weeks. It was still beautiful. I never tire of looking out at God’s beautiful handiwork. Ecclesiastes 3:11 says, “He hath made everything beautiful in his time…”

It was so nice just to get away by ourselves and enjoy each other’s company on a beautiful autumn day. We need to plan another day soon.

Note: Sorry about the quality of these pictures, my camera wasn’t working right, I guess maybe it needs a little respite.

Catching Up

Hello Hello

I thought that I would just do a quick post to fill you in on all that’s been going on in my world lately.

The last post was about the dresser that I found, and planned to update. Well, that project hasn’t moved very quickly. I was hoping to get it finished before we started back to school (we homeschool), but that didn’t happen. I did buy some new knobs, and price my paint, but then I got sidetracked with other projects. (That’s Life)

We started back to school and now have two weeks under our belts – yay! Things are going pretty smoothly this year. There were three students, then two, and now only one, so it has gotten a little less stressful. Hannah is starting 9th grade this year. We have been doing a lot of hands-on activities. We have a short day on Fridays, and do Bible, nature studies, and handicrafts. This gives us something to look forward to during the week.

I also had to help host my sister’s baby shower.

This will be her third baby, a girl. Her second child is now 14 1/2 so, we are very excited to have another little one in the family. We are looking forward to the holidays and passing her around! My daughter and I hosted the shower, and wanted to keep it really simple. I made the cupcakes with homemade butter cream icing (yum), and Emily made ham and cheese rolls with a refrigerated pizza crust. Just slice them and bake.

I bought a fruit platter with caramel dip, and a small vegetable platter with buttermilk ranch dip. Since my sister is having a girl, we decided to make pink lemonade, water with lemon, and diet soda (we have several diabetics in our family). I think everyone enjoyed themselves.

So, you see that I have been busy. I am excited to finish the dresser, and will make a post on it soon. We are taking Monday off of school, so I am planning to work on it then. We will see….

Until next time,
